Mid Year Book Freakout | Tag

Hello lovely bookworms!

I’ve seen this tag over booktube, so I decided to do it too. I hope this is as fun as it looks on video lol. So far I’ve read 54 books, I’m sure I will freakout just thinking about what book to choose for each category. Anyway, let’s get started!

Best book you’ve read so far in 2019

Every time people ask this, there’s only one book that comes to mind and that is, The Wall of Winnipeg and Me by Mariana Zapata. It’s a slow burn romance between an american football player and his assistant/house keeper. Honestly I read this book without expectations and without knowing much, only what the synopsis said. I fell so hard for this book. If you like romance, I’m sure you’ll love this book!

Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2019

I’ve read a couple of sequels this year and they were great, but I will have to say Vengeful by V.E. Schwab. I read Vicious last year, I think, and I loved it. It’s one of my favorite books, so I was super excited to read the next installment in the Villains series. I thought I couldn’t love Victor Vale even more, but I did! Vicious is about Victor and Eli, who were friends in college, but the experiment to become ExtraOrdinaries (EOs) didn’t go well. Victor is finally out of jail and he’s going after Eli.

New release you haven’t read yet, but want to

There are like a million books I have to mention here, but Romanov was one of my most anticipated books this year. I already own a copy of it, so I’m not sure what I’m waiting for. Romanov is a retelling of Anastasia and I loved the movie, so I’m hoping I will like the book too.

Most anticipated release for the second half of the year

This is easy. Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo. Ever since she announced this book I’m eager to read it. I’ve seen great reviews about it already and I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy!

Biggest disappointment

This one’s easy too. All the Little Lights by Jaime McGuire. I read Beautiful Disaster by her years ago, so I was expecting to like this other story of hers. I found the book to be longer than necessary, the plot wasn’t that great for me and in general, I just didn’t like the book at all. All the Little Lights is about a girl and a boy (I can’t remember their names, sorry not sorry) that met when they were like eleven years old, they liked each other. But then the boy disappeared when the girl needed him the most and she never forgave him. A few years later, they meet again and the boy tries to win the girl’s heart and trust while the girl keeps a secret of her own.

Biggest surprise

I want to say The Wall of Winnipeg and Me again, but I’m not sure if I can repeat books. Since I don’t want to cheat, I’m going to say that Percy Jackson and the Olympians series was a great surprise. I read the books like five years ago and decided to reread them this year. Oh my, I didn’t remember them to be so good! Honestly, I didn’t recall much about the story in general, only some characters and very little scenes so rereading it was like reading it for the first time all over again! If you like Greek Mythology, I’m sure you’ll love these books.

Favorite author, either debut or new to you

I’ve read some great books from new authors to me, I feel bad only mentioning one because they all need to be recognized for their brilliant work. However, I will mention Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman. I read the Illuminae Files in April/March and I liked it so so much! I can’t wait to read more books by them, either as a collaboration or individually. The Illuminae Files is a sci-fi story full of action and adventures and danger and funny moments and it’s amazing, read it.

Newest fictional crush

Nikolai Lantsov, definitely. He stole my heart in Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo, and he hasn’t given it back. It’s not like I want it back either way lol.

Newest favorite character

Legend from the Caraval series. I like it that he is so mysterious and when you think you know him, he surprises you by doing something you wouldn’t expect from him. And I’m going to cheat in this category because I also like Jasmine from From Lukov with Love by Mariana Zapata, she was so strong and determined and I wish I could be a little bit more like her.

I painted this piece for @owlcrate character is Legend from Caraval book Series by Stephanie Garber hope you guys will like it xoxo

Book that made you cry

Mangas count as books? Oh well, A Silent Voice by Yoshitoki Oima made me cry at 2 in the morning and I’m sure that it will still make me cry whenever I reread it. A Silent Voice is about Shoko, a deaf girl, being bullied by Shoya when they were in elementary school. Six years later, they meet again, this time Shoya has learned his lesson and is willing to be friends with Shoko and make up for everything he did to her when they were kids.

Book that made you happy

All books make me happy, is like I see one and I instantly feel at peace, but The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren made me feel so happy and like I could find love… someday when I decide to go to a honeymoon that is not mine with my archenemies lol. The Unhoneymooners is an enemy to lovers story. It’s funny, cute, and heartwarming. This is a perfect summer read.

Most beautiful book you’ve bought/received so far this year

I’ve bought some pretty books, but the cover of A Curse so Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer is one of my favorites! Maybe it has to do with the fact that it is blue and my favorite color is blue.

What books do you need to read by the end of the year?

Oh god, so many! Just thinking about it I get anxious, but I want to finish reading the Raven Cycle series this year before the new spin-off series is released next year, I believe.

That was all for the tag. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did. Feel free to do it, it’s so much fun thinking about all the books you’ve read so far in the year and what you think about them.

Until the next post!

Happy reading 💙
