Hello amazing readers!
I love subscription boxes because they feed my love for books even more. I have bought from different subscription boxes before, but I recently got the September Illumicrate box and since I didn’t want to spoil anything to anyone, I waited for a time frame that felt appropriate to post this. Just in case you haven’t got your box yet and you don’t want spoilers, please don’t keep reading!
With that being said, this is my attempt at an unboxing.
There’s nothing as beautiful as receiving a box full of book goodies and a book to make your day better. I seriously love seeing this yellow box because it brings with it so much happiness and great things.
The first thing I saw when opening this box, was a little red one that made me feel so intrigued. When I opened it, I was so in love. Inside was a ceramic travel cup, Now We Rise, artwork by Jess Taylor (@deuxdel on Twitter). This cup is inspired by Children of Blood and Bone. I haven’t read that book yet, but the cup is stunning, I can’t wait to start it and be even more happy whenever I look at the cup. The photo doesn’t really make it justice, the colors are so vibrant and the artwork is incredible and I love it!
Then there was a list pad, The End is Nigh, designed by Fable & Black (@fableandblack on Instagram). I believe this is inspired by Good Omens. Again, I haven’t read the book nor watched the tv show (what a surprise coming from me), but I’m so excited to use this to write down my to-do lists! The colors are great and the paper is thick and it feels like great quality.
This next item is wow and it gave me all the feels. It’s a wooden postcard, Blackcliff Academy, artwork by Alicia Pinapali (@pinapali on Instagram). If Blackcliff Academy was not an indicator to you about which book this is from, this is inspired by An Ember in the Ashes. I have only read the first book in the series and I really can’t wait to get to the rest of it. This postcard is so well painted and of amazing quality. It even made Blackcliff Academy look like a really cool place, even when it actually isn’t.
I love scarves, so getting one in this box was fantastic. This is the Watford School of Magicks scarf, designed by Hey Atlas Creative (@heyatlascreative on Instagram), inspired by Carry On. Purple is not one of my favorite colors, but the scarf is thick and cozy and it will surely keep me warm in winter so I can’t wait to wear it and feel like I’m a classmate of Simon and Baz lol.
Lanyards are not something I use daily or even from time to time, but this DNA lanyard is designed by Fable and Black (@fableandblack on Instagram), inspired by This Mortal Coil. I don’t know a thing about this book, but the item is great quality and the colors are very vibrant. I will have to think very hard where and when I’ll be able to make use of it.
There’s just one more item before I tell you what book was included in this box. Illumicrate started having collectible coins in their boxes a few months ago, artwork by Monolime (@monolimeart on Instagram). This time the character on the coin was Katniss Everdeen, the girl on fire! I was so excited because this is my first THG item and I will treasure it forever! Sorry if you can’t see the design properly, but my camera didn’t focus very well when I tried to zoom.
And last but not least, the book. The featured book for September was Kingdom of Souls by Rena Barron. Arrah yearns for magic, but each year she fails to call forth her ancestral powers, while her ambitious mother watches with growing disapproval. When the Kingdom’s children begin to disappear Arrah is desperate to find the culprit… but she uncovers something worse. The long-imprisoned Demon King is stirring and if he rises, his hunger for souls will bring the world to its knees… unless Arrah pays the price for magic to stop him (this is what says in the spoiler card that came in the box lol).
This is an Illumicrate edition, it has stenciled sprayed edges, it’s signed by the Rena Barron, and it comes with a letter by her, too! The cover is stunning, but the stenciled sprayed edges are to die for! Also the detail and how the yellow/gold parts of the cover seem to glow when the light hit them… I’m in love! This might be the most beautiful book I’ve ever received in a subscription box so far.
These are all the items that came in the box. Sorry if this doesn’t look bookstagram worthy, but I tried my best. I liked all the items, but my favorite one was the traveling cup. I don’t drink much coffee, but I love hot chocolate. I can’t wait to go to work with my cup.
I hope you enjoyed my rambling about this box that I liked a lot. Illumicrate is one of my favorite boxes out there and I just hope they keep shipping to my country, otherwise my heart will break.
Until the next post!
Happy reading 💙
