Hello stunning readers!
This is the review of the last book I read in 2019! I’m so excited to finally post the reviews for the books I’ve been reading this year. There will be a few changes in my reviews from now on, but I’ll let you know all about it in my next post so keep an eye out for that one. For now, let’s get into the review of this amazing book!
I saw a couple of people on Instagram talking about this book and they were saying great things about it, so I got curious. Deciding to read it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
The Bridge Kingdom is about Lara, who was trained to become the weapon that is going to destroy Ithicana, their enemy country. As part of a treaty, she has to marry the king of Ithicana, who is known to be a ruthless and horrible person. Lara has only one goal, bring Ithicana down. However, once she is there and meets the king, she realizes that things are not what she thought they were, including Aren, Ithicana’s king.
I have to say I loved this book. It is perfect in my eyes, but I know there are a few of things that are not exactly perfect. For example, the plot is not something out of this world and the trope is enemies to lovers. But I don’t know, Danielle L. Jensen knew how to make this work and make me fall for it so hard. What was perfect, were the descriptions of Ithicana and the world in general, it felt so vivid and I really want to visit those places!
Personally, I saw a lot of the plot twists coming, but I couldn’t care less. I was still on the edge of my seat not believing what I was reading. Seriously, I was really invested in this story and I regret nothing. My emotions were all over the place so I think that’s what matters, how the book made me feel.
As for the characters, we have a few of them. I really don’t want to talk about them in detail because I believe that the less you know of a book, the better. All I’m going to say is that I liked all of them. I hated so much the villains that I also like them because they are so awful and I love villains that make me hate them with my heart and soul (is that weird? Yes? Okay). However, I love Lara, she is so determined, courageous, brave, and she stands for what she believes and for those she cares about. And the only thing you should know about Aren is that he stole my heart and I’m more than okay with him keeping it.
The book is told in Lara’s POV, but we have a few of Aren’s POV as well throughout the story. I loved reading both of their perspectives. And like I’ve said before, I love books with multiple POV because we get a better grasp and understanding of the story. So there’s another point for the book.
This is the first book of the series, I actually don’t know how many books in the series there’ll be, I just know that I can’t wait to read the sequel, The Traitor Queen, when it comes out in September. A little fun fact, these books are Audible originals, so they were available first as audiobooks so if you enjoy reading books that way and have an Audible subscription, then give them a try. I’ve heard that the audiobooks are amazing.
Everything about this series is a win win situation!
While I was processing my thoughts so I could write a more logical and understandable review, I came to the conclusion that the reason why I loved this book so much, and the reason why I give books 5 stars, is when they are a mix of fantasy and romance. The Bridge Kingdom is an enemies to lovers romance but it is also a fantasy novel about one kingdom being at war; and so we get, on one hand, the two characters trying to understand their feelings for each other; and on the other hand, we get these characters fighting and trying to survive and win a war against all odds in a far away land. It’s like the best of both worlds, and in my opinion, Danielle L. Jensen made an excellent job at balancing the romance, the action, the mystery and everything. My emotions were D E S T R O Y E D!
I seriously can’t recommend this book enough. Please just make yourself a favor and read this masterpiece! Oh, and feel free to fangirl with me when you’re reading it!
That’s it for now. I really hope you give this book a try.
Until the next post!
Happy reading 💙
