A Gathering of Shadows by V.E. Schwab | Book Review

This is the second book in the Shades of Magic series, so I won’t tell you much about what this book is about because of spoilers, but the first book is about a magician and a thief that meet by accident and together they go on adventures. If you want to check the complete synopsis click here, and if you want to read my opinion on the first book, A Darker Shade of Magic, click here.

A Gathering of Shadows takes place four months after the events of A Darker Shade of Magic. I won’t say anything more other than I was so happy to be back in this world with these characters. We still follow Kell and Lila, but in this book we get the chance to know more about Rhy, who I love so much! There were a few more characters introduced, only one of them I liked, the other two I despised lol.

The tension in this book was too much to handle because of two characters that went their own way at the end of book 1 (if you read it, you know what I’m talking about) and so I was desperately waiting for their reunion but Victoria took her sweet time making it happen! Thankfully all the waiting was worth it!

Honestly, nothing truly important happened in this book. In my opinion, this second book felt like a bridge that helps to connect events from book 1 to book 3. However, in A Gathering of Shadows we get to know more about the characters and even understand a little bit better the magic system. In other words, it was more character driven, so if you like books like this, then I’m sure you will enjoy it, but if not, you might not like it as much.

Like I said in my review of A Darker Shade of Magic, this is a series you have to read if you like fantasy and magic and lovable characters. And I’m sorry if this review doesn’t say too much, but I tried to avoid spoilers as much as I could.

Until the next post!

Happy reading đź’™
