Broken Beautiful Hearts by Kami Garcia | Book Review

Hello book lovers!

Here’s another review. This time is a romance book and in case you don’t know, romance is one of my favorite genres. So let’s get to the book review!

Broken Beautiful Hearts is such a cute and beautiful story, but before I get into my thoughts, you should know that this book talks about relationship/family abuse, as well as the death of parents due to dying in war, and drug consumption. Also, if you don’t like UFC and the sort, then you might not enjoy as much this book. If this is something that might upset you in some way, please read this book with caution.

Having said that, I’m going to talk about this story about Payton, who is a soccer player and seems to have a perfect life. Her boyfriend is an MMA fighter and her boyfriend’s sister is her best friend. However, one night, Payton and Reed get in an argument and he hurts her knee. Payton’s life is getting out of control, so she moves with her uncle and twin cousins in Tennessee. She only wants therapy to be done to get back in a soccer field as soon as she can, but she wasn’t counting on finding Owen, a guy that seems to have secrets of his own, but that is very sweet with her.

Honestly, I’d had this book in my Goodreads TBR for ages. I was feeling like reading romance so I thought “why not”. Oh god, I have to confess I regret not reading this book sooner. It was so cute and it deals with a lot of heavy stuff but at the same time it was so enlightening and beautiful. It filled my heart with hope and love and a lot of beautiful things.

Broken Beautiful Hearts is told from Payton’s POV. We get to know her and her fears very well. There were some moments in which I wanted to hug her and reassure her that things were going to be fine. She is still coming up with terms with the loss of her dad and now she has to deal with her boyfriend becoming a completely different person who tries to manipulate her. It wasn’t easy for her, but fortunately she finds great people in Black Water, Tennessee.

I’ve already talked about Payton, so I’m going to talk about Owen. Where to start tho. He is a guy that is keeping a secret that broke my heart when we learnt what it was. But he is very determined to live life and protect those he cares about. He is also a sweetheart with Payton, it was impossible not to fall for him. He is the kind of guy that is difficult to come across in real life nowadays. The kind of guy I want in my life.

Then we have Payton’s cousins, The Twins. Oh my god, they reminded me so much of my own cousins. They were protective of her but they were also kind of goofy and so oblivious of some things that were happening around them. They have a special place in my heart and I only want them to be happy and going big at football.

Even though I enjoyed reading this book so much, I don’t think it is one of my favorites, but it’s pretty close tho. Broken Beautiful Hearts gave me all the feels and it was exactly what I was in the mood to read, it has a very special place in my heart now. I recommend it to anyone, just be aware of the trigger warnings I mentioned in the beginning.

These are some of my favorite quotes:

Sometimes life only gives you two options. Bad or worse. So you go with bad.

People fight for three reasons—survival, aggression, and attraction.

Sometimes you fight with your fists and other times you fight with your will.

I don’t believe that everything happens for a reason. Some things just happen, and you have to live with the fallout.

Every heart can be broke. Some just break more easily than others.

Until the next post!

Happy reading 💙
